The Buddha's Advice on Relationship to Authority

The Buddha advised not go by anything because:

1. It is repeated again and again

2. The words come from a lineage or tradition

3. It has been widely stated by many people

4. It has been written in books (scriptures/research/views)

5. It is logical and reasonable

6. Through inferring and drawing conclusions

7. It has been thought out

8. Of acceptance and conviction through a theory

9. The speaker appears competent/intelligent/charismatic

10. Out of respect for the authority figure.

Let us respond wisely to what we hear and read.
